          High School Visitation Project

We Need YOU To
             Help the PSRC Go
Green!!

The PSRC is proud to announce a new program called "Go Green!" that is aimed at raising the awareness of Respiratory Care in high schools throughout the state.  The goal of this program is to have a respiratory therapist visit EVERY high school guidance counseling department to personally let them know who we are and what we do!

Respiratory Care programs throughout Pennsylvania continue to struggle to attract new students and the top students from high schools throughout the state continue to go into other, more visible healthcare professions.  This is despite the fact that the job outlook for our profession continues to be in the top ten and is projected to be there for quite some time.  Something has to be done and soon!

Here is YOUR chance to volunteer just a small amount of your time to help your profession.  No experience is needed!  All you need to be able to do is talk about what you do for your patients...and we KNOW you can do that!  Here's how it works:

1.   The links at the bottom of this page will take you to a list that contains the names of every public and parochial high school in Pennsylvania. Initially, all of the schools will be highlighted in RED signifying that they need a therapist to visit.

2.   Scroll through the list of schools and select one (or more!) that you would like to visit.  It can be your alma mater or simply a school down the street. Just make sure that the school name is still highlighted in RED.

3.   Once you've selected the school(s) you would like to visit, click on the link to sign up!  We'll ask you for your contact information so we can mail you some items to take with you when you visit.  Once you've signed up to visit a school, we'll change the highlight from RED to YELLOW to let others know you're planning to visit the school.

4.   Once you've signed up to visit the school, we'll provide you with a phone number to the school.  Call the school and ask to meet with the school's Guidance Counselor (or someone in their department).

5.   The PSRC will send you a copy of the just released "AARC Life & Breath DVD" which provides a tremendous amount of information in short, 1-3 minute clips that the viewer can select on all aspects of respiratory care.  In addition, a list containing contact information for all accredited Respiratory Care programs in Pennsylvania will also be provided.  When you make your visit to the school, we ask that you give these items to the guidance counselor which they can then use for reference.

6.   When you make your visit to the school let them know what you do!  Tell them why it's vital that we have more students entering our profession.  Let them know who we are and what we do.  Most guidance counselors have never even heard of respiratory care....

That's it!  Once you've made your visit, let us know and we'll turn the highlight to GREEN on the website.  Our goal is to make the entire list "GO GREEN!".
